Driving

Driving is partly about dealing with different kinds of change.

We generally want many of the changes not to be abrupt. We want smooth transitions. The sign should warn you in time to make the right move. The road should curve slowly enough to match the turning radius of your car. The lights should synchronize with traffic flow and speed limits. Plus, we've got changes going on inside the car, such as music, conversations, phone calls, etc. Many ProxPatterns come into play here.

Road engineers honor the integrity of a variety of different cars and trucks on the road. Car manufacturers honor the integrity of the materials they use, as well as the capacities and weaknesses of human drivers. Your cup holder makes your drink more proximate. Your map or guidance system helps you connect to your destination independent of your prior knowledge of the neighborhood.
